Principal's Report
What a Night!!
Thank you to the Coolum Community for you support of Coolum Carnival as it returned from a years absence. It was wonderful to see the many students, parents, grandparents and friends enjoying the many events of the evening. To our many wonderful sponsors thank you for your support. An evening like this dosen't happen without someone extraordinary to co-ordinate the event, Denise French you are amazing, thankyou from the whole Coolum Community. Staff and parents who worked on the stalls and helped with the both the setup and clean up, your efforts are appreciated.
Class Placement for 2022
Due to increases in enrolments throughout the year and changes to year level numbers, all year levels and classes will be reviewed in order to create classes for 2022. When formulating classes teachers consider the needs of each student to ensure we have the best fit for all students and balance of students for each class.
Drop Off Zones
When using the drop off zones on School Rd and Barns Lane you are required to stay with your vehicle. When you leave your vehicle you are deemed to have parked your car. These areas are designed to move fluidly for quick pick ups and drop offs. If you wish to have conversations with friends or organise sleep over please find another area around the school to enable the traffic to continue to flow.

STEM News
Prep Digital Technology Lessons
This semester our Prep classes are learning about digital technologies and algorithms in STEM.
We’re learning that all digital systems (computers, iPads, drones etc.) are designed to help solve problems (or meet a need).
Digital technologies use electricity to work. The electrical signals flow through circuits that allow our devices to Input, Store, Process and Output information (data). See if your child can show you the actions.
Students are exploring Bee-Bots (hardware) and are enjoying using algorithms (sequence of steps) to code (software) them to move around on different maps. Our code is represented using arrows and words like forward, turn left/right, backward.
We are also using the Bee-Bot and Blue-Bot apps to learn about algorithms. These apps are free and available on iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Google Play Store) for parents to download.
If you are interested in purchasing a physical Bee-Bot, these retail for approximately $140 and are available from a variety of suppliers.
Blue-Bots are around $220 each and offer some more advanced features like being able to be connected to the Blue-Bot app on iPad. They also have a transparent case so you can see the internal parts. Search ‘Bee-Bot’ or ‘Blue-Bot’ in your preferred search website for a supplier.
Day for Daniel
Day for Daniel tomorrow 29 October, wear red and remember your gold coin donation.
Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day, and honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. The key safety message on Day for Daniel is to teach children to Recognise, React and Report if they ever feel unsafe.
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s key role in the community is the education of all children about their personal safety. The Foundation works to empower all Australians to make their local communities safer places for children.
The Foundation would like to see a future where all children and young people are provided with education, protection and support to be safe. Through the gold coin donations which have been made at Coolum State School and many other schools today, the Foundation can continue to provide resources and education on personal child safety, to children, young people, their families and educators.

Queensland Primary Schools Netball Cup
On the first weekend of the September school holidays our Coolum State School Netball team travelled to the Gold Coast Hinterland to compete in the Queensland Primary Schools Netball Cup. Over the two days of competition the girls had to play 12 games of netball. We came away with 8 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses. Overall, we placed 11th out of 95 teams. A huge congratulations to the following 10 girls who represented our school with great sportsmanship and pride – Ziggie, Tilly, Jordan, Natalie, Lucy, Ellie, Lily, Jati, Laylah and Sienna.
On Friday 15 October Coolum State School hosted a Netball Gala Day. The day saw teams from Noosaville, Peregian, Tewantin and Eumundi State Schools join our Coolum teams for a fun and exciting day of Netball competition. Coolum State School had 3 Netball teams across the two divisions competing. In the A Division our Gold team won the competition and our White team placed third. In the B Division our Blue team came runners up. Again, a huge congratulations to all 24 girls who competed and represented our school with great sportsmanship and pride.
Music News
Music Fest
On Monday 18 October 2021, the Coolum State Primary School Concert Band and the Coolum State Highschool Middle school Band took a long 1 ½ hour bus trip to Iona College in Brisbane, to participate in a music program called Music Fest.
All those Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon rehearsals and the all-day long Sunday rehearsal the day before, had lead up to this day. Both of the bands played lovely, with the Concert Band playing ‘Voyage of the Dragon Armada’, ‘Mythos’, and ‘Appalachian Folk Dance’. The Middle school Band played ‘Predators of the Deep’, ‘Ghost Lights’, and ‘Bunyip Blues’.
As I said, both bands played really well, with the Middle school Band coming home with a Silver Award and the Concert Band coming home with a GOLD AWARD! Our brilliant conductor Mrs Sharelle Guest was very proud of our success.
After leaving with pride on our faces it was sadly turned around when it started storming around 30minutes into the bus trip home. It rained so hard that water came in through the windows. Most of us (including me) got a little wet and so did our bags because there was water all over the bus floor.
But overall it was a great day, and I’d like to thank our truly amazing conductor for giving us the chance to go to Music Fest, and also the chance to play music. Also, a big thanks to Mrs Roz Mackay for coming along to help.

Performing Arts Week
This week at Coolum State school was the amazing ‘Performing Arts Week’ with a range of different musical activities and performances by so many talented people. Over four days teachers, parents, families and students got to experience a performance of a lifetime.
On Monday the Junior Voices, Senior Voices and Drama students put on an amazing show by performing their Eisteddfod pieces and also re-enactments of classic shows like Alice in Wonderland and Annie.
On Tuesday the extraordinary Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and Strings students played. Both Senior and Junior bands and ensembles played extremely well. There were also some soloists who did breathtakingly brilliant!
On Wednesday were the skilful Coolum AllStarz, and gifted Year 6 Vocal Rock ‘Sonic Singers’ - who both executed their performances perfectly. The energy was high, and audience was amazed!
And for the final day on Thursday, the ‘Welcome to Wind Symphony’ instrumentalists are going to rehearse all day at a special combined musical workshop, in preparation for a concert this evening. Students from our Year 6 Middle School Band program, will join with the High School Wind Symphony students. They will perform their exceptional songs to some lucky classes from our school this afternoon, before the final concert to family and friends at 6pm this evening.
However, none of this could have been done without the amazing teachers, Miss Anderson, Mrs Guest, Mrs Nix, Miss Warren, Miss Bollard and most importantly Mrs. Mackay, who put together the whole week for the students and parents to enjoy. So, thankyou to all the teachers who helped to create this fun and exciting music extravaganza.
