Term 4 week 2 2021
Principal's Report
Welcome Back
Welcome back to term 4 and the hive of activity that the last term of the school year brings. This term will see the completion of the school air-conditioning program, just in time for summer! Please make sure you keep track of the school calendar with the many events that are on this term. The biggest event this term will occur next week, COOLUM CARNIVAL!!! Thank you to the local community for your support of this event and to the parents and students who have been making and preparing items for the variety of stalls. This event will be held under Co-vid guidelines which includes signing in and masks if you cannot be socially distant.
Student Leadership
Leadership is a quality that all students at Coolum Primary School are encouraged and supported to develop. Students from Prep to Year 6 take on the role of leaders of their own learning. Through the curriculum and extra curricula activities, all students are encouraged to develop the skills necessary to be a leader. This ensures that all students perceive themselves as leaders and have the opportunity and confidence to take on leadership roles within and external to the classroom.
Student leadership roles challenge individuals to develop a sense of vision and purpose as they take on responsibilities and use decision making skills in order to carry a project through to a successful conclusion. They develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills including communication, negotiation, team work and reflection. Students are given opportunities to develop the skills of active, reflective listeners who respond effectively as they work with others to determine and achieve collective goals.
Embedded in our extra-curricular program are formalised student leadership roles. Through their actions Coolum Primary School’s Student Leaders reflect and demonstrate the School’s Values; Community, Strength and Success.
Students’ attendance, involvement in school activities, diligence in class and adherence to the code of conduct for students will be considered for leadership positions.
This term our Year 5 students will be nominating for the primary leadership roles of School Captains, and Sport House Leaders. Good Luck to our prosepctive 2022 student leaders.
Drop off Zones
During the afternoons the drop off zones have been moving more freely, thankyou for working with us on this. However, in the morning we have noted a number of parents parking in these zones and leaving their car to drop their child to class. If you are dropping your child to class please do not park in the drop off zones and utilise the carparks to help keep these areas flowing.
News from 2G
2G’s Quirky Cursive
This term, 2G is practising fluency in handwriting. We have learned to write cursive letters and are now perfecting our entries, exits and joins. We put together an alliteration book. Each student wrote a sentence using their own name amongst words that begin with the same sound.
News from 4B
Wow, what a year it has been! We feel so grateful for many things in 4B and especially the fact that we live in this amazing place in the world and feeling very lucky to be able to attend school and still do so many activities to keep us busy, healthy and happy. Here is a snapshot of all the fun we have been able to have so far…….We enjoyed Sports Day, where all our true colours came out! It was great having swimming lessons in term 1 to cool us down on those hot summer days! We also had an amazing time doing the Rainbow Run at our school to end off a busy Term 3.
In Science we have learnt about natural materials, and made our own convict shoes, rocks and erosion, forces and this term we are looking forward to learning about life cycles. We’ve made up our own poems, written stories, welcomed new students into our classroom and made sure to be kind, helpful and caring along the way. We had a fabulous time on Year 4 camp where we participated in many activities that were quite challenging and came home exhausted after 3 days of non-stop action! 4B loved dressing up as our favourite book character for Book Week.
We have drawn convict ships and painted beautiful pictures in Art and did some Excel during ICT lessons. During Japanese, we made origami and learnt more about Japan and its people. From singing new songs and playing new instruments in Music, to learning new games in PE, we have had a brilliant time! We even had our own Mini-Olympics! The most fun we have as a class is when we have Funday Friday on the last Friday of every month. We play team games, trivia quizzes, make cubby houses, create shops, bring our own games in from home to play with our friends. Last term, we participated in the Bike On program and enjoyed a Book Live presentation for Book Week. We’ve had some great achievements in our talented class and their enthusiasm to participate and represent our school does not go unnoticed….School and District team sports, Choir and Eisteddfod, Chess, Spelling Bee, World of Maths, Tournament of the Minds and Instrumental Music. As well as all of this, we kept on top of learning, but remembered to have fun along the way!
We enjoyed filling each other’s buckets by saying and doing kind things for one another and loved learning about convicts in English. This term, we look forward to learning more about the world of advertising. Everyone in 4B cannot wait to perform their Parade Item next week, advertising our amazing Coolum Carnival! Wow, what a crazy but fun year it’s been already!!! Well done 4B, keep up the great work!!
Festival of Colour
What a great way to end Term 3.
