Term 3 week 8 2021
Principal's Report
Coolum is Community
On the last day of term we will celebrate "Coolum's Festival of Colour". Did you know that this event is steeped in tradition dating back 100s of years. Holi is a popular ancient Indian festival, also known as the 'Festival of Love', the 'Festival of Colours' and the 'Festival of Spring'. It originated and is predominantly celebrated in India and Nepal. Holi celebrates the arrival of spring, the end of winter, the blossoming of love and for many, it is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.
It's back!! Planning for the best event on the Sunshine Coast calendar is in full swing. While we are excited to get on the rides, eat fairy floss, play games, chase pigs and be dazzled by the fireworks, we are looking forward to bringing the Coolum Community together for a magical event. Keep an eye on facebook and the school newsletter for updates.
News from 5S
Following on from the school wide Bucket Filling Poster competition, 5S have continued to be bucket fillers every day. This relies on the analogy that every person carries with them an invisible bucket.
Bucket-fillers are those who act in a way that fills another person's bucket and refers to those who practise kindness and good behaviour. Being kind to others fills others buckets and our own. Each student in 5S was asked to write about a time that they were able to help someone and fill someone and by filling their bucket.
Claudia – I helped Marley improve her combo jump on my air track and it made her feel very happy.
Jake – I helped my grandma when she broke her shoulder by reaching high places and feeding her dog.
Loki – I helped my dog Rocky by giving it a family because he was abandoned on the side of the road.
Deegan – I helped my brother find his lunch box yesterday he lost it when he was coming home from school.
Ella Mi – When my friend fell over on the hard, rough concrete I helped her get up and made her feel better and my other friend Marley and I took her to first aid.
Kahea – I taught my friend how to play footy and he’s getting better every game.
Ploy – I love to help my fabulous teachers with any kind of work like hanging posters or handing out sheets. They always help me so much by teaching me and I love to help them with any little thing I can do.
Ella Ma- When I was playing games with my friends and this nice kid we didn’t know asked to play with us, I said yes and he loved that but I can’t remember his name.
Roxy – I was able to help Ploy with her karate katas for a tournament.
Mitchell – My friend broke his arm at Noose North Shore so I kept him comfortable until my parents came to help.
Layla – I helped someone when my friend Evie fell off a beam at the school’s exercise equipment. She fell off so then me and my friend Amie brought her across the oval to the bag racks. After that I took out tissues and a Band-Aid. I got the tissue and wet them at the bubbler. Then we wiped Evie’s knee and put a Band-Aid on it.
Marley – I helped Ella when she tripped over on the concrete and she hurt her knee and her hand and it had quite a lot of blood. I took her to first aid and got her hat and pencil case and when we met her at P.E she had some Band-Aids on her hand and leg.
Amie – Layla and I helped my friend Evie when she fell off a beam and she also grazed her knee. She was able to walk slowly to the bag racks, once we got there I wet a tissue and let Evie dab it and Layla put a Band-Aid over it to stop it from bleeding and getting infected.
Tyson – I helped my Pop by seeing him a lot and giving him a cool drawing
Hudson – I helped my brother learn how to play a video game. He thanked me.

T20 Cricket
Last Friday students from Coolum State School had the opportunity to participate in the Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup at Tewantin Cricket Club. We had boys, girls and a mixed team participate in the competition on the day. The day consisted of four games for each team competing against teams from other schools. The majority of our Coolum players had only picked up a cricket bat for the first time in the training sessions leading up to the carnival. The inexperience of our players did not hold our teams back with all sides having success on the day.
Our mixed team ended up winning all of their division games, closely losing their other their game in the final. With standout performances from Cohen, Belle & Harvey with the bat and Zac, Malachi and Slater with some impressive figures with the ball. Our boys’ team had a similar result winning two out of their four games with Cruz, Ethan who put on impressive displays with the bat while Kai, Jasper & Tallow tormented the opposition with the ball. The Coolum girls put on an entertaining display of cricket racking up well over 100 runs per innings with a high score of 166. Stella and Natalie were exceptional with the ball while Jordan, Bonnie and Jati put on plenty of runs in their innings. Overall, it was a superb day of cricket with our Coolum Students having a positive attitude and displaying great sportsmanship.
