Term 2 Week 2
Principal's Report
Welcome Back
Welcome back to term 2. A special welcome to the many families that have started with us this term. Many of you have shared the sense of community and welcoming spirit of our school and the wider community as a highlight of your move which is something the Coolum community is very proud of.
Students have settled fantastically back into their learning in the classroom and have remembered the school’s uniform policy. As the weather gets cooler, many will start wearing jumpers. Please ensure there is a name on the jumper. During the day students take them off, put them on, take them off, put them on and then at times lose them. Please help us to be able to return them to their owner. The Uniform Shop has a stock of school jumpers available.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Next week we have parent teacher interviews. It is very powerful to have home and school aligned in the educational needs and direction of our students. Parent and teacher interviews ensure that everyone is clear about future directions and the effort that will be required for future student learning. As a school we aim to encourage students to take control of their learning and to recognise the growth they are achieving in both social and academic areas. The ‘interview’ is an important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and to build communication and understanding between home and school. If everyone is well prepared, even a short interview can be productive and very worthwhile:
- Keep a list of questions you want to discuss with the teacher.
- If you want to discuss a specific matter, make contact in advance so the teacher can be prepared with the information you are seeking.
- Ask your child if there are matters they would like discussed.
- Be ready to ask questions, or admit you do not understand.
- Share helpful information about your child or family circumstances. Teachers are appreciative of anything that helps them to know their students better.
- If you disagree with any judgements the teacher may have made about your child, listen carefully and ask for examples.
- Remember the interview is a valuable time to discuss your child and their learning, not share your experiences at school or philosophies about modern education.
- Please don’t hesitate to contact the school to arrange a follow up interview.
Some questions:
- How is my child progressing?
- Are there ways I can help at home?
- Does my child need extra help?
- How does my child get on with other members of the class?
- Does my child have a sound work ethic in class?
- What is my child’s behaviour like in class and at school?
- How well is my child doing on formal assessments?
After the interview:
- Discuss the interview with your child, including any points of action.
- Stress the good things that were said and be direct about any problems.
- Act on any suggestions made by the teacher.
- Keep working with your child’s teacher by staying in touch.
Children respond positively to knowing that the important adults in their life are working together.

ANZAC Day 2023
After our sincere and poignant school ANZAC service here at school last Friday, we were so honoured once again, to have many of our senior students be a part of our community's Dawn Service on Tuesday.
Each year, it is an immense moment of pride for our school to have our students march, perform a musical tribute and lay a wreath during the solemn service. It truly is a testament to our students, and their families, who keep attending year after year, to ensure that the respect for our ANZACS will never fade and will continue on for future generations. Lest We Forget.

Sport News
At the end of last term we held our annual Cross Country. Whether students were running for fun with their mates, points for their team, for physical fitness or to make the school team to attend the Noosa District trial, it was fabulous to see so many students out on the oval enjoying the event. We would like to congratulate the 36 students who will represent us next Friday 5 May at Noosaville State School and we wish them well. Congratulations also goes to Peregian who were crowned 2023 house champions on the day.

RideScore Active Schools
REGISTER NOW!
- Do you live close to school?
- Do your children have a bike or scooter?
- Would you like peace of mind knowing your children have safely arrived at school?
If you answered YES to these questions, then RideScore is for you!
What is RideScore?
RideScore is an incentive-based program delivered by Sunshine Coast Council and We Ride Australia to increase active travel to and from school. The program is open to all students who ride a bike or scooter to school, as these can easily be fitted with beacons.
Participating students will receive a personal sensor (beacon) to attach to their bike or scooter. The school bike storage facility will be fitted with a Bluetooth reader that detects the signal from the beacon and sends a notification to the nominated contact that the student has arrived at or departed the school gate. Please note that the beacon is not a tracking device, it only records school arrivals and departures.
Data is collected by the online platform, enabling incentives to be offered at certain milestones.
Activities will also be planned throughout the school year to promote and encourage active travel, including cycling education classes for all Year 4 students.
How do I register?
Step 1 - Download the RideScore App (Search for ‘RideScore’ in the App Store or on Google Play)
Step 2 – Receive your sign on bag (will be distributed via the classrooms) that includes:
- Your child’s beacon & instructions on how to pair and fit
- Bike Lock
- Scorecard
- Road Safety Information
Step 3 – Start riding or scooting
Step 4 – Visit the RideScore website for great resources and safety tips
