Term 1 Week 8 2022
Principal's Report
Flood Repair Update
This term certainly is the term that keeps us guessing. Following the recent rain event we had number of areas of the school that suffered water damage. The last of the repairs were completed this week with 3G and 3J returning to their classrooms after a full internal repaint, new carpets and some minor repairs. I’m sure the students are happy to be back in their classrooms. A huge thank you to those parents who assisted Mr Moody to clean out the Sports Sheds.
P&C AGM
The Parents and Citizens association will hold their AGM on Tuesday 29 March at 7pm in the Uniform Shop. The Coolum community is extremely supportive of our school and the P&C is a great way to be involved. Come along or attend by Zoom to see and hear of the wonderful things our P&C do each day to support our students and the school.
Camp Update
This week our year 5 and 6 students have had the opportunity to attend their annual camps. The year 6 students attending the week at Tallebudgera Outdoor Environmental Camp and the year 5’s to Currimundi Sport and Recreation Centre. The students have had a wonderful time making new friends and learning more about themselves and each other during the activities. Unfortunately for a few they joined the COVID crew while at camp and had to return from camp early. A big thank you to the parents who were required to come down and collect your child during camp. Stay tuned for more updates from the students. Thank you to the staff who helped despite many obstacles to ensure these camps still went ahead.
Ride to School Day
Coolum State School values active transport to school. Once again, we will be involved in Ride 2 School day on Friday 25 March. Meet up at Coles Coolum at 7:45am for an 8:00am departure as we ride to school. The local Coolum Police will escort us on the way. There are 4 x $500 Bike Shop Vouchers up for grabs by registering on council website . We are hugely grateful to Coles for their support of this event in their donation of fruit and water for our students!
Student Investiture
Congratulations to our 2022 student leaders who received their badges last week during the Investiture parade. All students, families and school staff are immensely proud of your achievements and being brave enough to put your hand up to make a difference in our school.

Kindness Culture
Friday 18 March 2022 is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative celebrates 12 years of action, connecting schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.
The theme for 2022 is Kindness Culture. By building Kindness Culture together, we can promote inclusion, respect and community belonging for all students in schools across Australia.
At Coolum State School we began our focus on kindness in 2021, when we became a Bucket Filling school. At today’s parade classes shared how they fill buckets with kindness. All students will take home a fridge magnet of a bucket filling poster.

RideScore Active Schools
REGISTER NOW!
- Do you live close to school?
- Do your children have a bike or scooter?
- Would you like peace of mind knowing your children have safely arrived at school?
If you answered YES to these questions, then RideScore is for you!
We are one of nine Sunshine Coast schools that have been invited to trial the RideScore Active Schools Program in 2022.
What is RideScore?
RideScore is an incentive-based program delivered by Sunshine Coast Council and We Ride Australia to increase active travel to and from school. The program is open to all students who ride a bike or scooter to school, as these can easily be fitted with beacons.
Participating students will receive a personal sensor (beacon) to attach to their bike or scooter. The school bike storage facility will be fitted with a Bluetooth reader that detects the signal from the beacon and sends a notification to the nominated contact that the student has arrived at or departed the school gate. Please note that the beacon is not a tracking device, it only records school arrivals and departures.
Data is collected by the online platform, enabling incentives to be offered at certain milestones.
Activities will also be planned throughout the school year to promote and encourage active travel, including cycling education classes for all Year 4 students.
How do I register?
Step 1 - Download the RideScore App (Search for ‘RideScore’ in the App Store or on Google Play)
Step 2 – Receive your sign on bag (will be distributed via the classrooms) that includes:
- Your child’s beacon & instructions on how to pair and fit
- Bike Lock
- Scorecard
- Road Safety Information
Step 3 – Start riding or scooting
Step 4 – Visit the RideScore website for great resources and safety tips
